Day 5 - Spanish American War

What factors led the US into the Spanish American War? Describe the provisions of the Treaty of Paris. What was the significance of the Spanish American War to the US?

    By the end of the century, Cuban people began to revolt against the Spanish rule, and Americans were very sympathetic to them. The emotions of the American people were stirred by yellow journalism, and the Spanish president made crude remarks about our president. The USS Maine was sunk, this was a key event.
    The Treaty of Paris granted Cuba independence from Spain. It also gave Puerto Rico and Guam to the US. The US sold the Philippines to Spain. The US had established itself as a global power, and became a “big Brother” to Latin America.

    Cubans were in revolt against Spain, wanting to declare their independence and Americans supported their efforts.The treaty of Paris means that the revolutionary war is ended and that the British surrender.The Spanish-American War signaled the emergence of the US as a great power onto the world stage of international relations and diplomacy.

    The war all start because the US wanted to gain new territory. The US defeated Spain in very little time. The war was also caused by wanting independence. The Treaty of Paris granted Cuba independence from Spain, that meant Spain could do what they wanted to without the worry. At the end of all this the US finally got more land, and they could start more businesses.

    The Spanish-American War started after the Americans demanded for a resolution of the Cuban fight for independence were rejected by Spain. The Treaty of Paris basically ended the war but that wasn't all, it gave Cuba independence from Spain but the Platt Amendment made it so that it was ran under the control of the US. The Spanish-American war gave the United States more land that included Puerto Rico, Guantanamo Bay, and the Virgin Islands. Justin Grebloski

    The war happened because, i think, because america got greedy and wanted more and more land and tried to take it. A good thing that came out of the Spanish American war is that spanish most likely now feared us, and may help us if we needed their help. The treaty of Paris was signed to end the revolutionary war.

    The americans wanted a resolution between the cubans and the spanish, for the cubans independence but the spanish rejected it and we jumped into the war to help the cubans get there independence

    The U.S. wanted the Cuban's and the Spanish to settle and gain there independence but the Spanish didn't want to so the united states went into war and defeated the Spanish and got the Cuban's there independence.

    The spanish wanted the cubans to stop fighting for the independence. The americans were with the cubans with enraged the spanis, eventually leading to our entering the war. The treaty of paris basically ended the war while giving cuba its independence.
