Day 9 - Woman's Suffrage
What year did women achieve voting rights in America? Which Amendment secured this right? Explore the Woman's Suffrage Movement in America. Describe the fight for the vote, the tactics used, and the key players. Discuss your personal feelings regarding this movement.
On August 18, 1920 have women the right to vote. The 19th Amendment had secured this right. Women fought for a long time and one big fight that happened was on Seneca Falls where more then 300 women had fought for their rights. One key player was Lydia Chapin. My personal feeling is that I'm glad women have the right to vote and do other things. If you in the land of the free you should be able to do anything that men do and not be different and all be equal.

In 1919 the Nineteenth Amendment was passed. It became part of the Constitution in August of 1920. It stated, the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
ReplyDeleteMany groups and organizations were formed to help win this right. Two of the main groups were, National Woman's Party and the National American Woman Suffrage Association. Suffragists held parades silent vigils, and hunger strikes, lectured, lobbied, practiced civil disobedience, political cartoons, and parades to name some of them. Some key players were Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Carrie Chapman Catt, Lucretia Mott, Millicent Garret Fawcett, and Alice Paul.
I think it was a shame that these women had to go through all this to get the right the vote. I feel that they should have been allowed to vote just the same as man. This country was to be found for all, and I think all should have been treated equal regardless of sex, religion, or nationality.

In 1919 the 19th amendment was made, but didnt come into the Constitution til 1920. This meant that no one could be rejected to vote because of the sex of the person. The group i think was the most important is NAWSA. Some women that were important were Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, Lydia Chapin.
ReplyDeleteI just hate how the women could not vote from the start. I think they shouldnt have had to fight for it. It should have been something that every adult gets to do.
Women achieved voting rights in 1919 when the 19th amendment was passed but didnt go into affect until 1920. It was a very hard fight they had to endure over many years many were thrown in jail some even killed but when they passed the 19th amendment now everyone in the united states could vote. They had many strikes walks and even got arrested for reading poems in front of the whitehouse. And i think that its only right thet they could vote because they can do any other thing that the guys were doing
ReplyDeleteIn August 1920, the 19th amendment secured women the right to vote. Many of the suffragist used tactics like protesting in front of the white hose, having parades, and hunger striks to fight for their rights as americans to vote. Key players in the movement were Susan B. Anthony, Elizabet Cady Stanton and Alice Paul. I feel that what the women did during this time was the right thing to do. They should have the same rights as men in this country if everyone is supposed to be treated "equal."
ReplyDeleteThe year women achieved the right to vote was 1920. The 19th amendment secured this right which prohibits each state and the federal government from denying any citizen the right to vote because of the citizens sex.
ReplyDeleteAlice Burns, Lucy Burns and Inez Milholland were just a few of the women that were organizers of the womens sufferage movement of that time. They set up a parade, pickit lines, and were arrested for these actions.
I think I would have been right beside the women and fighting for women to have equal rights. I don't believe any sex, race, or religion should make someone better than someone else. I voted for the first time this year and it was a great honor.
Women achieved there rights in the year of 1920 because of the 19th amendment, which prohibits the rights of the government from letting anybody vote. Susan B. Anthony was one of the major players in the fight for womens rights. I dont believe the government should be able to control who votes weather they women or any type of religion cause nobody is better then anybody else.
ReplyDeleteThe 19th amendment gave women the right to vote, in the year of 1920. The reason the 19th amendment protects these rights is because, the 19th amendment states that no any person will be denied there right to vote because of sex, race, or religional beleifs.
