Day 4 - The Progressive Era
Why was the Progressive Era such an important period in History? Provide evidence to support your answer. The progressive era brought the US political, social, and economic reforms. Cite and discuss two reforms under each category.
Some social reforms were the Hull Houses in neighborhoods made by Jane Addams to help people with family problems and Eleanor Roosevelt also helped in activities around her city to support the war effort. There were some political reforms to by Robert La Follette and Emma Goldman, Emma Goldman helped anti-Franco forces in Spain by lecturing and fundraising for them. Robert La Follette also fought to stay in the US Senate and wanted to win the last battle he can by incorporating monopoly at home and imperialism abroad. Other reforms that were economic were when Woodrow Wilson started income tax for the United States and when Henry Ford adopted the moving assembly line were each worker only does one specific task in the production of automobiles. ReplyDeleteBecause the progressive era changed society for the people. John Dewey made educational progress, he made more classes available to students. Prohibition movement began to prevent the sale and consumption of alcohol.Florence Kelley played a part in health services and child labor reform.

1. New developments in communication brought the nation closet together.
2. High schools expanded the curriculum to include science, civics, and social studies.
Political changes were:
1. The southern states adopted a broad system of legal discrimination.
2. The “Square Deal” was given to American people by Roosevelt
Economic changes were:
1. Federal Reserve System, a national bank to help regulate the nations money supply was set up.
2. Clayton Antitrust Act was passed- outlawed certain types of corporations

The proggesive era changed alot for americans it made better school systems. It made it easier for immigrants coming over with the hull houses and evrthing they also passed a amendment to stop alcohol and made stricter guidlines on food packaging and food services along with drug services. They also got better healthe care and made chld labor laws mostly for the breaker boys and factorie kids
ReplyDeleteThe Progressive Era in the United States was a period of reform which lasted from the 1890s to the 1920's. John Dewey made better schools and more classes. The health care had changed extremely. 8.8 million immigrants entered the United States. Many of them came from nations, ethnic groups and religions that contrasted with the traditional dominance of American immigrants of Western Europe.

the progressive era was important because if brought good changes in all 3 areas, politically, socially, and economically.
ReplyDeleteone reform for the political area is the south got a system of non-illegal racism or discrimination. Another was, pres. roosevelt gave people something called a square deal.
One reform for socialism is more subjects were taught in school.
Another reform for the area dealing with the social area is, developments get people to come together
Some reforms dealing with America economically is, an act was passesed to limit certain business. Another would be a bank was used to help control the nations money.
The Progressives hada wide range of economic, political, social, and moral reforms. Initially the movement was successful at local level, and then it progressed to state and gradually national.changes included the income tax with the Sixteenth Amendment, direct election of Senators with the Seventeenth Amendment, Prohibition with the Eighteenth Amendment, and women's suffrage through the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
ReplyDeleteDuring the late 1800's and early 1900's, america went through The Progressive Era. During this time, many things like the federal reserve system, hull house, and roosevelts "square deal" came about easing much of americas problems. Womens suffrage was broght with the 19th amendment and prohibition was enstated with the 18th amendment, and then repealed with the 21st.
