Day 3 - The Fate of the American Indian

Custer's Last Stand was one of the saddest events in the history of relations between the US and Native American Tribes. Explore the Battle at Little Big Horn. Do you think that there could have been a compromise between the two sides. Provide evidence to support your answer.

  1. The indians and the whites coul,d have made some sort of compromise by sharing the land or give them permission to use each others land.

  2. There could've been a compromise if both the Indians and the US Cavalary met before fighting but George Cluster, without permission attacked the Indians because he seen them 15 miles away from the US camp. Justin Grebloski

  3. I do think there could have been a compromise between the two sides. They could have shared the land. Or the two sides should have met before the battle, but it seems like Custer was why this never happened as he attacked on his own doings. The government should have tried to get the Indians to understand better wheat the white man wanted from him. And the Indians could have been more cooperative with things. There was just no trust between the two groups, and communication was at a bare minimum to say the least.

  5. Yes, I think that the Native Americans and Custer could have reached a couple different compromises. The Native Americans could have asked Custer to stop invaiding their property. They could have also talked to Custer and gave him some land to hunt, fish, or move onto. Custer could have just been thankful that he got some. Custer could have also asked the Native Americans to hunt, fish, or move onto their property. Any of these would have probably stopped the war.

  6. Okay, the whites were wrong. I do not agree with them at all. When America was found by the whites, it had already been the home of the natives. The whites came and stold the land from the indians. I'm almost sure that if the whites could have just tried to speak w. the indians, they wouldn't have had to kill them, then eveyone woulda gotten along. Instead, all the whites knew was that the natives had land that they wanted. So if you want something, I guess they figured they would just take it. Which is wrong. Some compromise could've been made. You can compromise with just about anything.

  7. Yes i think they could of shared the land or set up a treaty or something so there wouldnt have had to be a battle. But custer thought that he could over power the indians but did'nt know that he was way out numbered end ended up losing. Then the indians rejoiced and we killed a whole bunch of indians at the battle of wounded knee

  8. Compromise, in my opinion, could not of happened. At least not a fair one. When one race believes it is superior to another, they will not give into the other one.

  9. A compromise between the indian and americans would have been almost impossible. The americans already didnt respect the indian people so to make a compromise would probably not happen.
